New Work in Progress & Amazon Review

This week I reached a milestone. I wrote 75k words on a new project. For someone who always seemed to end my stories at 50k, I worried I'd never write a novel-length work. Granted, I have 25k words to go but I'm determined to finish this WIP at 100k words.

Why? Two reasons. As I've mentioned previously, Angry Robot is opening their doors to unsolicited submissions in March. I don't want to miss that opportunity. Another reason: I'll have a novel to submit to an agent or a publisher.

On another note, I'd like to share an Amazon review I received from K. Duncan regarding Death Sword:

"I slipped easily into Death Sword's world from the very first page. The characters each have distinct personalities and the bad angels are believably dangerous. The author did a great job of building and maintaining the action and tension. The battle scenes at the end are great. I don't know much about angel-lore and while the book contains a lot of it, I never felt lost. If you like dark angels and urban fantasy, this book is well worth your time."

Back to writing!

A Brief Update

Sorry I've been remiss in posting anything new lately. Death Sword is doing quite well for a debut release. Exactly how well I can't say until the numbers come in. For a brief moment (maybe two hours), I was in the top 100 on Amazon UK's books > fantasy > paranormal list. (Amazon rankings bounce up and down like the proverbial ping pong balls.) I look at it this way, even if I'm 400,000, at least I've sold one book. LOL And for that, I'm grateful.

Anyway, I'm working on the Zaphkiel Project which I hope to submit in March. Today my goal is to reach 50k. The total projected length is 80k. If I finish it, the Zaphkiel Project will be the longest book I've written. (At this point that may be the title unless I can come up with something better.)

I've also revamped the blog. If you look on the left side, you'll see I've added pages, including online retailers where you can buy Death Sword, a free sample you can read, links to other sites I belong to, etc.

If you haven't had a chance to check it out, I have two interviews up. One is by urban fantasy author Sonya Clark and the other by romance writer Dyanne Davis who writes paranormal romances under the pen name F. D. Davis.

Stop by and check them out if you like. We'd love to see you. :-) And if you'd like to visit my site, it's http://pamelaturne.net. You'll find flash fiction, character descriptions, and links to past blog interviews.

Happy Release Day!

Death Sword was released today! It's my debut short novel that I wrote in 2008 for National Novel Writing Month. It's currently the first book in the Angels of Death series. (I'm revising book two and writing book three.)

It's available at Amazon (Kindle), B&N (Nook), Fictionwise, and other online ebook retailers.

New Year, (Almost) New Blog

I've made some significant changes to this blog, specifically the addition of pages. Much of this information is also cross-posted on my website, although I also include character sketches and free short reads on the latter. If you're interested in checking it out, please do. :-)

There will probably be more changes over the next few weeks or months. The focus will still be on dark genre fiction, particularly horror, paranormal (including paranormal romance), and urban fantasy. I'm interested in having an "Author Spotlight" where I profile an author for a month. And of course the guest blogger spot will still be open on Tuesdays. Basically, I want this blog to be interactive and a chance for authors and readers to interact.

That said, I hope you enjoy the new changes and I look forward to seeing you in 2011!
